End of the Harvest

From simple Americans
I was brought forth
Metering gaiety
Worshiping work

Patient and steady
Skillful and sound
Creatively fixing
What fate pronounced

I learned from work horse
I learned from the lamb
I learned from the hawk
I rejected and ran

None of it promised
A welcoming dawn
The only rainbows
Appeared after storms

Now that the harvest
Is almost done
I am reflective
And safe with the Sun.
